Group algebras FG of finite groups G over a field F are the central objects studied in the representation theory of finite groups. In particular, it is of interest to recover structural aspects of the group from certain properties of its group algebra. In my project, I characterize the finite groups G for which the socle of the center of FG is an ideal of FG. In this talk, I introduce the problem and present some results for the special case of p-groups.
